CUBA 1994-2020

This is my most personal photographic journey, created from my experiences and feelings during the 27 years I lived in Cuba. It will always be an open project that will be enriched by future trips.

Bariay is an indigenous word that was constantly repeated by the inhabitants of the area when the Spanish arrived. This name was given to the bay where Christopher Columbus landed in 1942, where he uttered his famous phrase: “it is the most beautiful land that human eyes have ever seen.”

For Eusebio Leal (1942-2020), historian of the City of Havana, this scenario symbolizes the door that opens the route to Cuban modernity.

That route, in time, in my case limited to the period 1994/2000 that I lived in Cuba, constitutes my work.

Bariay-Cuba is an embryo of projects developed from different angles and in a polyhedral way, collecting the various faces that the route of Cuba has shown during my stay there.

Today I show photos of that embryo, an audiovisual and a book, all of them under the name of Bariay Cuba.

It has been enriched with another publication, Somos Cuba. (2,023)

On the other hand, the exhibition project “Cuba, reinvented (2024)” has been created, to which new pieces will be incorporated.
