MONGOLIA 2019
In this work, I share my experience of living with nomadic peoples of the Gobi Desert in their clash with the challenges of our time, which are leading these organizations to disappear.
I have considered it necessary to share the journey of these nomads, and to do so under their own rules, in order to transmit a domestic vision of their own universe. A world contemporary to ours and far away.
I hope that my perspective can help the viewer empathize with the treasure for humanity that this way of life represents; giving them visibility is, for me, equivalent to respecting them and contributing to their protection.
Gobi means “desert”. Its territory occupies part of southern Mongolia and extends to northern China. To the north, it borders the Altaj Mountains, the Mongolian steppes and grasslands; to the south-east, the North China Plain; and to the south-west, the Hexi Corridor and the Tibetan Plateau. It is one of the most fascinating, uncontaminated and desolate places on earth. When one mentions the Gobi Desert, one immediately conjures up a feeling of a wild and unique natural spectacle, of uncontrolled mystery, of immense purple skies where the stars and the moon have never been so bright and luminous, but at the same time, that of a desolate wasteland with decidedly hostile environmental conditions, on the edge of survival.
But legend has it that it was created by the footsteps of the great armies of Genghis Khan; a cohort of nomadic shepherds, formidable warriors, excellent horsemen and archers, hardened by the harsh climate, which made them perfect for military life.
Based on these two concepts, my work on Mongolia will be divided into two projects: "Nomads Mongolia", which I will present through a slideshow, and “Crossing the steppe” through photographic series.
